Biography
Before joining Oklahoma Baptist University in October 2025, Dr. Lisa Tekell held various occupational therapy practice and academic positions. With over 24 years of experience, her work has focused on community-based practice, mental health, trauma-informed care, foster care, arts in healthcare, and low vision.
She is co-editor and co-author of Trauma, Occupation, and Participation: Foundations and Population Considerations in Occupational Therapy (2021) and co-author of chapters in Best Practices for Occupational Therapy in Schools (2019) and the forthcoming Mental Health Across the Lifespan: Enacting the Occupational Therapy Process (expected 2026).
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Tekell enjoys cheering on her daughter at sporting events, attending theater performances, and leading Bible studies and church activities.
