The Weekend is OBU’s annual Homecoming celebration and you’re invited home to gather, to connect and to celebrate. There’s something for everyone: alumni, students, prospective students, families and friends. All members of the OBU family and community can enjoy The Weekend.

Do you have photos from your time on Bison Hill? We would love to have a digital copy! Reserve a time during The Weekend to bring in photos to be preserved in the OBU Archives and potentially featured on our digital repository.

Pastors and School of Theology and Ministry Alums, this event is for you!

Dr. O.S. Hawkins, Dr. Tom Elliff and Dr. Todd Fisher will bring encouraging and equipping messages and our friends at Guidestone are graciously providing a fish fry dinner for all registrants on Thursday evening, as well as breakfast on Friday morning. OBU wishes to bless pastors with this free event!

6 p.m. — Women of Vision Annual Meeting and Dinner

Current Women of Vision members and anyone who is interested in learning more about Women of Vision, this event is for you! Come join us for a reception time, with opportunities for campus tours (via golf cart) and then dinner where you will hear from current OBU students and the impact of WOV. Current members will also have the opportunity to vote on our next WOV project!

9 a.m. — Bison Day

Recreation and Wellness Center

Bison Day offers a look at life on Bison Hill for prospective students.  They’ll be exploring the campus and engaging with current students.  If you have the opportunity, tell them what Bison Hill means to you!

10 a.m. — Paul Dickinson School of Business Forum

Tulsa Royalties Auditorium, Bailey Business Center

Come join current OBU students and alumni to hear from Ricky Dickson, who currently serves as CEO and president of Blue Bell Creameries, and is in charge of the organization's overall management and strategic direction. Mr. Dickson's lecture is entitled "Following God's Will...One Scoop At A Time."

10 a.m. — Division of Science Forum: Apollo Talks

Come join current OBU students and hear fascinating stories from retired physicist and OBU alumnus, Don Cooper, ’60 who worked on the Apollo missions during the space race of the 1960’s. 

10:30 a.m. — Kay Henry Live Event

The Weekend Registration Hub, Geiger Center (Lower Level)

Come hear from OBU Alumnus and former OBU Alumni Director, Kay Henry, about her new book, Living in the Light in this 30-minute interview-style live event. Copies are available for purchase in the OBU Bookstore and Kay will be signing after the live event!

11:30 a.m. — 50+ Year Club Luncheon Honoring the Class of 1972

The Gathering Room, Geiger Center (Lower Level)

We welcome all current 50+ Year Club members to this annual luncheon as we honor the Class of 1972 in their 50th anniversary year! Lunch, memories, photos and a pinning ceremony will all be included.

Make plans to attend the 8th annual Homecoming Worship Service in Stubblefield Chapel.  This Gaither style time of praise will be led by Walter Grady, ’71 and will feature a number of alumni.

3 p.m. — Faculty Hall of Fame

Cargill Alumni Center Backyard

Two retired members of the OBU faculty will be inducted into the Faculty Hall of Fame during this ceremony. Come help us celebrate these well-deserving individuals! Light refreshments will be served.

 

3:30 p.m. — Traveling Bison Live Event

The Weekend Registration Hub, Geiger Center (Lower Level)

Did you know that the OBU Alumni Association is launching a travel program in 2023? Come learn more about the new Traveling Bison program during this informative 30-minute live event! We will have information about 2023 trips, program operations and more. There will be opportunities to win OBU swag as well!

4 p.m. — Bison Volleyball vs. Arkansas Tech University

Noble Complex

Come cheer on the Women’s Volleyball team as they take on the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns! Note: Tickets are only sold online. Tickets are available for purchase at the gate but it will be an online purchase. Purchase your tickets at the OBU Athletics website.

5 p.m. — Alumni Award Winners Reception

Cargill Alumni Center

This is an opportunity for our Alumni Achievement, Profiles in Excellence and Graduate of the Last Decade award winners to gather for a time of reception and photos with their invited friends and families ahead of the Harvest Dinner.

This event is by invitation only.

6 p.m. — Harvest Court

The Gathering Room, Geiger Center (Lower Level)

Traditional dinner for Harvest Court candidates and their families. Harvest Court candidates will be recognized during the football game halftime show on Saturday, with the King and Queen announced.

You won’t want to miss this annual homecoming dinner where our Alumni Achievement Award, Graduate of the Last Decade and Profile in Excellence Award recipients will be honored.

Current students and their families are encouraged to come gather around the fire pits and make smores while enjoying the beauty of a fall evening on Bison Hill!

8 p.m. — Musical Gala

This year’s Musical Gala will spotlight performances by University Chorale, Bisonette Glee Club, Bison Glee Club, University Ringers and Symphonic Winds

9:30 p.m. — Ice Cream Social

Café on the Hill, Geiger Center (Upper Level)

Don’t miss this favorite tradition! Enjoy soft serve ice cream while you fellowship with friends and fellow alumni in the Café on the Hill. All OBU alumni, current students, prospective students and families are welcome to attend!

Saturday, October 15

7 a.m. — Bison Stampede 5K

Recreation and Wellness Center

Join us for the 7th annual Bison Stampede! The 5k and the Fun Run will start at  the OBU Recreation and Wellness Center (RAWC), which is located across from the tennis courts.

9 a.m. — Family Weekend Worship and Fellowship

The Gathering Room, Geiger Center (Lower Level)

Join current students, alumni and families for a time of worship to start your Saturday morning. Coffee and pastries will be served and current faculty will be available for conversation and connection.

10 a.m. — OBU Diversity Live Event

The Naked Truth About Diversity at OBU

Do you have questions about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at OBU? Parents, alumni and students are invited to come and hear from Vice President for University Culture, BJ Glover and President Heath Thomas about their biblical approach to this topic during this 1-hour live event. Bring your questions!

10 a.m. — Disc Golf Club Open Tournament

OBU Disc Golf Course

Come get your Disc Golf on at this open tournament! All alumni, students, OBU faculty and staff, as well as the Shawnee community are welcome to attend! The OBU Bison Disc Golf Course is located behind Taylor Residential Dorm off of MacArthur Street.

10:30 -12 p.m. - Sarkeys Communications Center Open House

 

10:30 a.m.–12 p.m. — Residential Halls Open House

This come and go timeframe is dedicated to providing tours and information about each of OBU’s residential halls. OBU staff will be on hand to take you to your former room (based on availability) and answer questions about residential life.

11 a.m. — OBU Women’s Soccer vs Ouachita Baptist University

OBU Soccer Field

Come cheer on the Women’s Soccer team as they take on the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers! The Bison are the defending 2021 Great American Conference Champions! Admission is FREE to this event!

12 p.m. — Alumni Decade Reunions/Family Weekend BBQ

The Oval

Alumni, current students and their families are invited to enjoy a BBQ lunch and an afternoon of live music, lawn games, and the Art on the Hill Festival. Decade reunions (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s) will gather in designated areas as we enjoy the fall weather on our beautiful Bison Hill. Current students will be able to swipe and join this event with their meal plan cards. Family members of current students will need to buy tickets.

12–3 p.m. — Art on the Hill

The Oval

Come shop and explore what local artists and vendors create, many of whom are OBU alumni! This is a wonderful way to “shop local” and support fellow alumni artisans! Plus you can do some early Christmas shopping!

1:30 p.m. — Future Bison Campus Tours (7–12 graders)

Thurmond Hall

Have a future Bison coming with you to The Weekend? This is a great opportunity for them to get a short campus tour and learn more about OBU. Tours will be conducted by current OBU Admissions staff.

2 p.m. — Dances of the Decades!

Geiger Center (Upper Level), Rooms 218-220

Have you ever wanted to learn how to dance on Bison Hill? Come join us for a couple of hours of dance instruction and fun as we work our way from the 60s to today! Featured dances include Swing, Hustle, Salsa and more! No experience or dance partner required! Dr. Daryl Green, Dickinson Chair of Business and Competitive Ballroom Dancer, will lead you through the decades as we dance the afternoon away! This event is free to current OBU students with ID. Pre-registration cost is $10 for adults and $15 at the door. All proceeds benefit the African-American Scholarships within the OBU School of Business.

3 p.m. — HoCo Walk

The Oval to Raley Chapel

Featuring deco boards painted by students. Students will be present to talk about their boards and alumni can vote on their favorites! Awards will be given at half-time of the football game.

4 p.m. — Bison Bash Tailgate

Intramural Fields

Come hang out and mingle at the tailgate, where the OBU and Shawnee communities will be represented! Food, drink, goodies, giveaways, lawn games and connections will be had. You can also get a spontaneous volleyball game started on the new sand courts! See the OBU Marching Band, Shaz and the OBU cheer teams as we all gear up to cheer on the Bison in the Homecoming football game!

6 p.m. — Bison Football vs. East Central University

Crain Family Stadium at the Hurt Memorial Track Complex and Bison Football Field

This is the grand finale of The Weekend…the Homecoming football game! Come cheer on the Bison as they battle the East Central Tigers! You can enjoy special presentations, the crowning of our Harvest Court King and Queen and a halftime fireworks show! Go Bison!

Note: The OBU Alumni Association has a limited block of General Admission tickets that can be purchased through The Weekend registration. For premium seating tickets, visit the OBU Athletics website. Tickets are available for purchase at the gate but it will be an online purchase.
