FOCUS Week Scheduled for Feb. 20-23 at OBU

February 15, 2023

OBU is hosting its annual FOCUS Week February 20-23. This year’s FOCUS Week is organized in conjunction with Life Action Ministries and will include five main sessions emphasizing spiritual growth and discipleship.

Dr. Matthew Kearns, director of OBU’s student ministry said, “Ultimately, our desire is to provide opportunities for our student body, faculty, and staff to focus their attention on Jesus and be encouraged to grow in their relationship with Him. What began as a conversation about a series of chapel gatherings, has become what I pray will be a spark for transforming lives and communities with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.”

The open meeting times are Monday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. and  Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.  All the general sessions are free and will be held inside Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium.

Historically, Focus Week has been a time set aside to encourage spiritual renewal and revival on campus. It is an intentional series of days intended to encourage those attending to focus on Christ and to strengthen personal relationships in their lives. Topics this year include how to know God, honesty and humility, forgiveness, obedience to God, and the blessing of mission.

FOCUS Week 2023 will conclude Thursday, Feb. 23 at 9 p.m. with the Focus Week Canterbury Celebration, providing a time of worship and connection. It will be held in Rom 219-220 of the Geiger Center.

Dr. John Avant, director and president of Life Action Ministries, and a team from the ministry organization will be on campus to facilitate the week’s events and be joined by a host of college student volunteers.

Life Action was founded in 1971 to spark spiritual change in families, churches and nations. They believe that revitalization in families and churches is the key to transforming our culture for Christ and completing the Great Commission. A key core value of Life Action Ministries is “to help people thrive by inspiring them toward a lifestyle of saying yes to God.”
