College of Humanities and Social Sciences Welcomes New Faculty

OBU is pleased to announce the addition of six new faculty members to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Dr. Brian Horn joins the faculty as associate professor of teacher education. Horn earned both a Bachelor of Science in education and a Master of Education from the University of Oklahoma. He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of North Texas. Horn has served as a higher education professional at multiple universities. Most recently, he served as the associate professor and chair of teacher education at Dallas Christian College.
Julie Parrick joins the faculty as assistant professor of anthropology. Parrick earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology/sociology from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. She then earned a Master of Science in college student personnel administration from Central Missouri State University. Parrick later earned a Master of Arts in anthropology from the University of Houston. She is currently pursuing a doctorate of higher education leadership from Texas A&M University. Parrick most recently served as the director of community and industry education services at Tarrant County College Northeast in Hurst, Texas.
Dr. Lyda Wilbur joins the faculty as assistant professor of Spanish. Wilbur earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. She then earned a Master of Arts in Spanish art and literature from Millersville University in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Wilbur later earned a Master of Arts in educational leadership from Oklahoma State University. She most recently completed a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction from the University of Oklahoma. Wilbur has many years of experience teaching Spanish in Oklahoma. She has also served as principal of Mitchell Elementary School and Will Rogers High School, both in Tulsa.
Dr. Jessica Rohr joins the faculty as assistant professor English, TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Rohr earned a Bachelor of Arts in intercultural studies from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. She then earned a Master of Arts in English (TESOL) from Missouri State University. She later earned a Doctor of Philosophy in linguistics from the University of Texas at Arlington. She recently serves as an adjunct instructor for both UT Arlington and Baptist Bible College, as well as an instructor of record for several years at UT Arlington. She has also spent time as an instructor at Harvard University and has experience in TESOL in other Asia.
Dr. Daniel Spillman joins the faculty as associate professor of history. Spillman earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. He then earned a Master of Arts in history from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Spillman later earned a Doctor of Philosophy in history from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He most recently spent eight years as an assistant professor of history at Williams Baptist College.
Dr. Christopher Hair joins the faculty as associate professor of English, associate dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and chair of the Division of Language and Literature. He earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in English from Baylor University. He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy in English from the University of Kentucky. Before coming to OBU, he served as chair of the English department and professor of English at Emmanuel College in Georgia.
Dr. Pam Robinson, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, looks forward to the contributions these new faculty members will make on Bison Hill.
“The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to welcome these six new faculty members,” Robinson said. “We are excited about the new insights and ideas they bring to the university as we prepare our students for their chosen careers, some of which may not even exist at this time.”
