Compton, Thompson to Perform Senior Recital March 14

OBU students Michelle Compton and Sarah Thompson will perform their senior recital Thursday, March 14, at 7 p.m. in Yarborough Auditorium in Raley Chapel on the OBU campus. The community is invited to attend.

Compton, a mezzo-soprano, is a musical arts major, with voice emphasis, from Weatherford, Okla. The daughter of Mike and Lauren Walkup, and the wife of Blake Compton, she is from the studio of Dr. Jennifer McQuade, assistant professor of music. She has served as section leader of the University Chorale. She has been named to the President's Honor Roll three times and Dean's Honor Roll three times. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

During her time on Bison Hill, Compton has appeared as a chorus member in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro"; competed at NATS Solo Competition twice; performed a solo and duet in OBU's production of Handel's "Messiah"; played contralto, Olga, in a scene of Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin"; played mezzo-soprano, Lucretia, in a scene of Britten's "The Rape of Lucretia"; and will be appearing as contralto, Olga Olsen, in OBU's production of Kurt Weill's "Street Scenes." Following graduation in May, she plans to continue serving at Faith Baptist Church in Harrah, Okla., with her husband, as well as teaching voice and piano.

Thompson, a soprano, is a worship arts major from Oklahoma City. The daughter of Mark and Christy Thompson, she also is from the studio of Dr. Jennifer McQuade. She has served as Chapel Crew Chair and Fellowship of Church Musicians President. She has been named to the Vice President's Honor Roll three times and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Her performances have included the role of Amber in "Hairspray."

During the recital, the vocalists will be assisted by Dr. Keith Whitmore, staff accompanist, on piano; Sandra Meyer, staff accompanist, on piano; and Blake Compton on baritone.

The recital will include works by Ives, Dalayrac, De Falla, Schubert, Mozart and Bizet, performed by Compton, as well as works by Handel, Cesti, Bononcini, Schubert, Honegger, Satie, Abt and Burleigh, performed by Thompson.

The audience is cordially invited to a reception in Raley Chapel Room 142 following the recital.
