Skaggs Named Dean of Students

August 5, 2011

The dean of students is responsible for the development and cultivation of student life functions which express the mission of the university. The dean manages student activities such as the Campus Activities Board and the University Concert Series; provides oversight in student disciplinary procedures and issues; supervises chapel attendance; and supervises student groups such as the Student Government Association, social clubs and new student orientation, among other responsibilities.

Skaggs earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2003 and a master's degree in business administration from Tarleton State University in 2007. He has completed work (ABD) toward a doctorate in education from Dallas Baptist University.

Since 2006, he has served as director of admissions and recruitment and as coordinator of student engagement, retention and advising at DBU. He previously worked as general manager and executive director of Boulders, Ltd., in Killeen, Texas, serving in the areas of organizational leadership, community development and strategic planning. From 1999-2001, he was assistant to the director of campus activities at Mary Hardin-Baylor.

"Brandon Skaggs brings experience in student engagement and strategic management at Baptist universities to his role at OBU," said Norman, who also serves as executive vice president of campus life. "We anticipate he will build on this broad experience to develop and cultivate student life on Bison Hill in a manner consistent with the OBU mission. Based on his studies of the Millennial Generation and social media practices, we expect he will bring new energy to student activities, Student Government Association and residential life."

Skaggs currently serves as president of the Young Alumni Board for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. His research has focused on the Millennial Generation and integrating social media into marketing strategies.
