Godspell Makes Return To OBU Stage

"As these characters are taught by Jesus about love, joy, and community, they are each changed and redeemed from their old ways of living," said Aldridge.

Written by John-Michael Tebelak with music by Stephen Schwartz, the off-Broadway production of Godspell features the 1972 hit songs Day By Day and By My Side.

Whitni Butler, a junior vocal music education major from Sapulpa, Okla., will play Joanne. Brittany Farris, a freshman theatre major from Oklahoma City, will play Sonia.

Brett Spalding, a junior family psychology major from Canyon, Texas, will play Jesus. Nathan Hollis, a senior theatre major from Clovis, N.M, will play the parts of both Judas and John the Baptist. Patrick Little will play Jeffrey. Little is a senior theatre major from Enid, Okla.

Other cast members include Kate Rutledge, a junior theatre major from Carrollton, Texas, as Robin. Bethany Simmons, a junior elementary education major from Grapevine, Texas, will play Gilmer. Kyle Strope, a freshman studio art major from Enid, Okla., will play Lamar. Katherine Wortley, a freshman theatre major from Fort Smith, Ark., will play Peggy.

Godspell also will feature several OBU professors, including Canaan Crane, assistant professor of psychology, and Dr. Brad Jett, OBU associate professor of biology as guitarists. Dr. Lee Hinson, associate professor of church music will act as band leader.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the OBU Box Office at (405) 878-2347 or visiting the box office in Sarkeys Telecommunication Center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for students, $8 for adults and $5 for children. Group rates also are offered.

Other OBU theatre productions slated for this academic year are Sleeping Beauty, Feb. 22-23 and 29, and Rumors, April 24-25 and 26 and May 2-4.
