Professor Publishes Book

Oklahoma Baptist University associate professor of applied ministry Dr. Robert A. Dawson recently released a new book, "Bible Study in Blended Ministry Churches." The book describes ways that traditional churches can use non-traditional methods of Bible study in order to reach multi-ethnic or low-income communities.

Dawson wrote the book to help students in his educational ministry class understand how to reach multi-cultural communities around churches in which they serve.

"The book seeks to do two things," Dawson said. "First, it helps religious educators to be more effective in using their traditional on-campus approaches. Second, it helps educators to see the needs of the community that would never be reached through traditional methods."

He hopes that his book will challenge Sunday school teachers and other church members to get away from a comfort zone mentality and reach into communities.

Dawson serves as a conference leader for Baptist adult Sunday school in Oklahoma and is an adult curriculum writer for LifeWay Christian Resources.

He earned a bachelor's degree in religion from Wayland Baptist University, two master's degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a doctorate from Southwestern Seminary in education and church administration.
