OBU Students Encouraged to Develop Worldview

Oklahoma Baptist University's president Dr. Mark Brister officially welcomed students, faculty and staff to the beginning of the 2000-2001 school year during the university's Fall Convocation service, Wednesday, Aug. 30.

"You must ask yourself, 'What are some of the things that God wants me to do so that my addition to history will contribute and make the world a better place in which to live,'" Brister said.

To help students answer the question Brister listed seven "Value of the Person Principles."

He encouraged students to discover the meaning of life, become a master student, speak with integrity, develop a passion for service, become a team player, share vision, and become a worldview thinker.

"OBU, by design, exists to help you develop a Christian worldview in the liberal arts tradition," Brister said. "Come to understand your place of significance in God's time right now in history."

The 2000 convocation ceremonies moved from the university's Raley Chapel to the Noble Complex due to construction in Potter Auditorium

Dr. Joseph R. Weaver, vice president for academic affairs, introduced sixteen new faculty and nine new administrative staff members.
