Filters for the OBU Events Calendar

There are four filters in the OBU Events Calendar to categorize events. They are:

  • Experience
  • Event Type
  • Theme
  • Audience

Any event you submit for approval should use all four filters.

Experience

The Experience filter specifies if this event is an in-person or virtual event. If this event has both in-person and virtual components to it, select both options.

Event Type

The Event Type filter tells people what kind of event will be provided. This is best described as what something is.

There are currently 10 options for event types, and you must select at least one. Seven of these options are available for you to use, while three are used for specific purposes.

The seven event types you can choose from are:

  • Awards and Recognition: this includes inductions, ceremonies and awards presentations.
  • Chapels and Worship: for all OBU Chapel services, and includes other worship events such as Canterbury.
  • Club Sports and Intramurals: events related to OBU's club sports teams and intramural events.
  • Conferences and Fairs: events such as conferences, fairs and expos.
  • Panels and Lectures: events generally involving a speaker or speakers about one or more topics.
  • Performances and Exhibits: events such as concerts, recitals, showcases or art shows.
  • Social and Gatherings: get-togethers, socials, hangouts and gatherings.

The following three event types are reserved for specific use cases:

  • Academic Calendar: exclusively used to show all the dates listed for the Academic Calendar.
  • Important Dates: a subset of dates of the Academic Calendar and used by Marketing and Communications to display in specified locations.
  • NCAA D2 Athletics: athletic events such as games and tournaments which are sourced from the OBU Athletics website.

Theme

If an event type is what something is, then the Theme filter tells you what something is about. By connecting the event type and theme, you can get a rough idea of what to expect.

For example, an event marked as Arts and Culture and Performance and Exhibit could be a recital or an art show, while one marked as Health and Wellness and Panels and Lectures could be a lunch-and-learn about healthy eating.

There are seven themes you can select from, and you must select at least one:

  • Athletics
  • Academics
  • Arts and Culture
  • Recruitment and Admissions
  • Spiritual Development
  • Campus Life
  • Health and Wellness

Audience

The Audience filter lets people know who the desired audience is for the event. While you must select at least one, you are not limited and can select as many as necessary.

The six audiences are:

  • Current Students
  • Community Members
  • Employees
  • Prospective Students
  • Alumni and Friends
  • Parents and Families
