OBU welcomes Peercy and Blackaby to the Henry F. McCabe Family School of Education

The Henry F. McCabe Family School of Education at Oklahoma Baptist University has announced the addition of two new faculty members for the 2026-27 academic year. Kathleen Peercy has been named assistant professor of teacher education and online teacher education student success coordinator.  Dana Blackaby has been named assistant professor of teacher education.

Kathleen Peercy

Peercy ('17) is teaching several online education courses. She will also lead efforts to support the growing population of students in the School of Education's online education programs, serving not only as a professor but also as an advisor for students. Many are non-traditional, adult learners who already work in school settings in support staff roles, such as paraprofessionals and teacher assistants. Professor Peercy is passionate about walking alongside these learners as they prepare to lead their own future classrooms.

Since graduating from OBU with an elementary education degree, Peercy has excelled as an elementary teacher, curriculum coach and elementary school assistant principal. She also served as an adjunct professor for OBU in the 2025-26 academic year. She holds a Master of Arts in School Leadership and is finishing her doctorate in K-12 Educational Leadership at Baylor University.

Dana Blackaby

Blackaby is teaching several early childhood and elementary education courses and will work closely with preservice teachers on Bison Hill. 

Blackaby brings many years of experience as an educator with K-12 and university teaching experiences. She served the last seven years as an administrative faculty member at East Texas Baptist University, where, in addition to her teaching responsibilities, she also served as ETBU's Thrive Coordinator, developing a structured leadership and mentoring program for student development.  Before ETBU, Blackaby worked in a variety of ministry and teaching settings, serving as an elementary teacher and dyslexia specialist. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communication from Tarleton State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Dallas Baptist University.
