OBU to Host Hobbs Lecture Oct. 7

Oklahoma Baptist University will host the annual Herschel H. and Frances J. Hobbs Lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Dr. R. Lucas Stamps will deliver the lecture during chapel at 10 a.m. in the Recreation and Wellness Center. His topic will center on Baptists and spiritual formation. The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required.

The Hobbs Lectureship was OBU’s first endowed lectureship, established in 1980 by friends of the late Dr. Herschel H. Hobbs, longtime pastor of First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, and his wife, Frances J. Hobbs, in recognition of their legacy of faithful Christian service.

The lectureship annually brings notable speakers to campus who explore aspects of the Baptist faith and heritage, encouraging a deeper understanding of Baptist theology, history and scriptural studies. It is one of four endowed lectureships at OBU designed to enrich students’ academic and spiritual formation.

Stamps serves as professor of Christian theology and director of the master’s programs at the Clamp Divinity School of Anderson University. He has written numerous books, essays and articles, including The Baptist Vision with OBU’s Dr. Matthew Emerson. 

Stamps also serves on the board of directors for the David S. Dockery and Timothy F. George Center for Baptist Renewal. He lives with his wife and five children in Anderson, South Carolina.
