Dement Joins Faculty as Associate Professor, Director of Theatre

August 16, 2022

OBU recently welcomed John Dement to the faculty as associate professor of theatre and director of theatre. Dement assumed his role July 1, ahead of the fall 2022 semester.

Prior to joining the OBU faculty, he served as theatre program coordinator and associate professor of theatre at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas, from 2014 to 2022. He previously served as associate professor of theatre at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, from 2012 to 2014. From 2002 to 2012, he served as director of theatre, department chair and associate professor of drama at Tarrant County College’s Southeast Campus in Arlington, Texas.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in theatre from Baylor University. He later earned a Master of Fine Arts in acting from Louisiana State University.

Dr. Matthew Emerson, dean of theology, arts and humanities, is grateful for the knowledge and expertise Dement brings to the theatre program on Bison Hill.

“Mr. Dement is an experienced theatre professor whose primary context is Baptist higher education,” Emerson said. “He is a great fit for OBU and for our historic theatre program. We are excited to see how he connects OBU Theatre to our authentically Christian liberal arts education.”
