The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma will perform in concert Thursday, April 7, at 7 p.m. at Oklahoma Baptist University in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. The concert is the finale performance of the group’s 60th anniversary celebration and is hosted by the OBU Division of Music. The public and the entire campus community are invited to attend the free event.
The Singing Churchmen are led by Dr. Randy Lind, worship/music ministry partner for Oklahoma Baptists. Lind has conducted the group since 2012. The choir consists of worship leaders, church staff members and other church musicians from all 77 counties in the state of Oklahoma. More than 160 men form the 2021-2022 Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma, who have performed throughout the state this year, including performances in Tulsa, Ponca City and Oklahoma City. The group was founded in 1960 by James Woodward, chair of the Church Music Department at OBU and later dean of the Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts.
The Singing Churchmen will perform a variety of works during the concert, including “With a Shout,” “Song of Worship,” “I Stand Amazed in the Presence,” “Thou Oh Lord” and “Wherever He Leads I’ll Go.” Additional pieces performed during the evening will include “Were You There?” and “Listen to the Hammer Ring,” as well as “Come to Me,” “I Have Seen the Light,” “Untitled Hymn (Come to Jesus),” “Midnight Cry” and more.
