OBU Music Preparatory Choirs to Present Spring Concert April 29

The Music Preparatory Department choirs at Oklahoma Baptist University will present a spring concert Sunday, April 29, at 3 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. Performing groups include the Shawnee Honor Choir and the Concert Choir. The concert is free and open to the public.

In its 34th year, the Shawnee Honor Choir, an auditioned group of third through eighth graders conducted by Conchita Hansford, will open their portion of the program with “Chatter with the Angels” by Charles Collins. They will continue with “Inscription of Hope” by Z. Randall Stroope, “Little Firefly” by Larry E. Schultz, “Let us Walk in Peace” by Patsy Ford Simms, “Michael Finnigin” by Dave and Jean Perry, and “Joshua” by Joseph M. Martin and J. Paul Williams.

Orff instrumentalists will perform “Allegro” by Carl Orff. Student performers include Ava Rawdon, Sylvia Scott and Camille Blakemore on soprano glockenspiels; Will Duran and Faith Lynn on soprano xylophones; Littie White on the soprano metallophone; Estelle Lilite and Elizabeth Mashek on alto xylophones; Mary Lytle on the alto metallophone; Emmelyn Braddock on the bass xylophone; Caden Romine on the bass metallophone; Alexis Walker on the bass bar; Sarah Mashek on the hand drum; Gabe Llanas and Nevaeh Gaines on wood blocks; and Riley Cox-Madden on the cymbal.

The Shawnee Honor Choir will conclude their portion of the concert with an audience sing-along of patriotic songs accompanied by hand chimes. Hand chime performers include Kate Jennings, Jake Lynn, Mary Lytle, Natalie Galloway, Keylee Landes, Garrett McDonald, Jordan White, Victoria Snyder, Indie Alexander, Baylee Foster, Jael Winter, Jared Kolpin, Cael Blakemore, Ty Thompson, Alissa Galloway, Jillian Askew, Elaina Muprappallil, Jameson Milette and Adyson Farris.

The Concert Choir, comprised of high school and OBU music education students, and directed by Dr. Louima Lilite, associate professor of music, will open with “They’ll Know We Are Christians,” an arrangement by Lilite. Other selections include “Another Day of Sun” by Justin Hurwitz, “Beauty and the Beast” by Alan Menken and arranged by Mac Huff, “Come, Glorify the Lord with Me” by Dennis Allen, “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” by Dennis Pollen and arranged by Darnall and Hart, “A Red, Red Rose” by James Mulholland, and “J’entends le moulin” arranged by Emily Crocker.

For the 28th consecutive year, Shawnee Honor Choir will present its spring program in area schools. The choir will perform at Family of Faith, Sterling House and Sequoyah Tuesday, April 24. The choir will perform at North Rock Creek, Grove and Pleasant Grove Friday, April 27.
