OBU senior Marissa Crowson will present her senior art show Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m. in the Art Building on OBU’s campus. A reception honoring Crowson and her work will serve as the opening ceremony for the exhibit. The public is invited to attend the free event. Crowson’s work will remain on display through Monday, March 21.
A senior graphic design major from Marlow, Oklahoma, Crowson works in the OBU athletics media relations department designing graphics for their social media accounts. Two of her works recently won awards in the social media category at the 2016 American Advertising Awards Gala.
She has named her show “En Route” because it reflects pieces of the journey that has brought her to where she is today.
“I came to OBU with little design experience,” Crowson said. “I continued to learn and improve my skills in the form of posters, package designs, web graphics, paintings and drawings. Whether it be attaining a new skill or overcoming a new obstacle, each piece holds special memories for me – memories I am excited to share.”
“En Route” will feature several of Crowson’s advertising posters, web graphics and package designs. A few of her paintings will be on display as well.
“Professor Corey Fuller has inspired my work,” Crowson said. “He has taught me nearly everything I know about design. He has also inspired me to strive for perfection and meaning in my design. I am thankful to him and to the rest of the professors in the art department for pushing me to keep getting better.”
For Crowson, she deeply values the role OBU’s athletics media relations department has played in her development.
“The department has given me the opportunity to combine two things I’m passionate about: design and sports,” she said.
She intends to seek a career with a professional athletic team or an advertising agency following graduation.
“Whatever happens, I am excited to see what is next on my journey.”
