College of Fine Arts to Host Musical Theatre Showcase Feb. 4

OBU’s Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts will host “Fathers & Sons: An Evening of Musical Theatre with Peter Purin,” Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Black Box Theatre in Sarkeys Telecommunication Center. The public is invited to attend the free event.

Dr. Peter Purin, assistant professor of music theory, will perform alongside his father, Charles H. Purin. The showcase will also feature Dr. Jeffrey Wells, associate professor of theatre, and Dr. Michael Dean, associate professor of music.

Purin, Wells and Dean will perform numerous pieces including “Fight the Dragons,” “Stranger,” and “How it Ends,” from Big Fish (2013); “Tell my Father” form The Civil War (1999); and “No More” and “Children Will Listen” from Into the Woods (1987).

They will also perform “Hey Kid,” from If/Then (2014); “Fathers and Sons,” from Working (1978); “Little Boy, Be a Man,” from Catch Me if You Can (2011); “Race You to the Top of the Morning,” from The Secret Garden (1991); and “The Hardest Part of Love,” from Children of Eden (1991).
