OBU to Present Annual ‘Musical Theatre Scenes’ Performance Nov. 20-21

OBU will present the annual musical theatre scenes program, titled “A Showcase of Musical Theatre,” Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21, at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Yarborough Auditorium. The performance is comprised of students in the Fall 2015 Musical Theatre I course. The students prepared, staged and choreographed all numbers except the full ensemble pieces.

The public is invited and tickets are $5 at the door. Admission is free for students with an OBU ID. Any additional donations are gladly accepted and will help support the upcoming Spring Musical Theatre Competition.

“A Showcase of Musical Theatre” features excerpts from several popular works in the genre of musical theatre. The program’s musical director is Dr. Peter Purin, assistant professor of music theory, and the accompanist is Dr. Keith Whitmore, assistant professor of music and staff accompanist.

The first portion of Act 1, titled “Introductions,” stars Brenna Bergeron, Hannah Behrends, Andrea Larson, Jillian Pullen, Eric Yoder, Kymber Sage, Seth Getz, Julie Welch, Joel Cannon, Samantha King, Jordan Hunt, Chase Hendrickson, Kayla Marshall, Dasia Givings and Ariel Hawkins. This section features excerpts from well-known theatrical musicals such as “Wicked,” “Big Fish,” “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and “Little Shop of Horrors.”

The second and third scenes of Act I star Joel Cannon, Trevor Mastin, Seth Getz, Kymber Sage, Ariel Hawkins, Molly Iley, Samuel Melton and Eric Yoder. Scene two is titled “Discontent” and features excerpts from “Godspell,” “Guys and Dolls” and “On the Town.” Scene three is titled “Working Hard or Hardly Working” and features excerpts from “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” and “Sunday in the Park with George.”

The first scene of the second act, titled “Pining for Love,” stars Brenna Bergeron, Paige Shelton, Jordan Hunt, Jennifer Watson, Julie Welch, and Dasia Givings. This scene features excerpts from theatrical musicals such as “Footloose,” “Miss Saigon” and “Jekyll and Hyde.”

The second and third scenes of Act II star Jennifer Watson, Brenna Bergeron, Samantha King, Samuel Melton, Jillian Pullen, Andrea Larson, Kayla Marshall, Chase Hendrickson, Joel Cannon, Eric Yoder and Jordan Hunt. Scene two is titled “Unconventional Friendships” and features excerpts from “Slide Show” and “Seussical.” Scene three is titled “Wishes and Hopes” and features excerpts from “Gypsy,” “Into the Woods” and “Children of Eden.”
