OBU to Host Music Leaders for Free Luncheon with Keith Getty

August 26, 2014

"Hymns, Worship, and the Christian Life -- a Lunch and Conversation with Keith Getty" offers a tremendous opportunity to hear from Keith Getty, co-writer of "In Christ Alone," "The Power of the Cross" and many other well-known modern hymns. Attendees will share in important conversation and helpful instruction as Getty shares from his experience and discusses attendees' questions on these topics. The lunch event is designed to help local Christian leaders connect on a meaningful level, bring an understanding of why singing theologically-rich songs is important, create a renewed awareness of the importance of congregational singing and host a conversation that might challenge, encourage and spark deeper thought and action on these topics.

The event is held in conjunction with the concert that evening, featuring Keith and Kristyn Getty, as part of their "Hymns for the Christian Life" tour. The concert will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Potter Auditorium on the OBU campus in Shawnee. The evening of worship will feature the Getty's full Celtic band and a 100-voice choir of singers from area churches.

Heralded as modern hymn writers, Keith and Kristyn Getty are known for writing and performing songs that transcend traditional church boundaries, uniting the voices of people all over the world. With music that is equally at home in urban strip-mall chapels, the ancient stonewalled Canterbury Cathedral, Nashville's legendary Ryman Auditorium and London's Royal Albert Hall, they occupy a different space in the Christian music community.
