OBU to Host College Prep Event in Lawton for 8th through 12th Grade Students

February 12, 2014

Although OBU is hosting the event, it is designed for students who plan to attend any college or university. The valuable information during this event may be used regardless of what college the student chooses to attend. The admissions staff from OBU will cover many important topics on how to prepare for college, starting as early as the 8th grade. The purpose of the event is to provide students and parents the information and resources they need to enhance their preparation for the college choice and admissions process.

Topics covered include the importance of grades; planning high school courses; preparing for tests such as the ACT, PSAT and SAT; community service and why it's important on college applications; enrolling in Oklahoma's Promise as early as 8th grade; financial aid; scholarships; considering your college choices; and much more.

"The college choice journey can take many twist and turns, detours, roadblocks, and scenic routes," said Bruce Perkins, associate vice president for enrollment management at OBU. "We are committed, as a university, to help families navigate this passage from high school to college as easily and effectively as possible. College: Next Exit is an opportunity for parents and students alike to learn more about topics that are of significance to any college-bound student."

"Although the event is sponsored by OBU, the information shared will address elements of this journey that are common to families regardless of one's ultimate college destination," Perkins said. "Families who are sending their first child off to college will find the evening especially beneficial."
