OBU Names Perkins Associate VP for Enrollment Management

"During his time at OBU, Bruce has served as Director of Admissions and then as Dean of Enrollment Management," said Dr. Stan Norman, provost and executive vice president for campus life. "His efforts in these areas have contributed significantly to increased enrollment and successful student retention efforts. Bruce has a proven record of outstanding leadership as OBU's chief enrollment officer, and we are confident that he will continue to provide strategic direction for the Academic Center, Admissions, Student Financial Services and the Milburn Center. This promotion is recognition of his contributions that advance our mission and strengthen our efforts of Christ-centered excellence."

A native of Frederick, Okla., Perkins earned a bachelor's degree from Howard Payne University and a master's degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has completed work (ABD) toward a doctor of education degree at Oral Roberts University.

Prior to serving as dean of enrollment management, Perkins served as OBU's director of admissions from 2006 to 2011. During Perkins' tenure as director of admissions and dean of enrollment management, freshman enrollment at OBU has grown from 315 in fall 2007 to 580 this past fall. Total enrollment has grown from 1,606 in 2006 to 2,097 in 2013.

Before arriving on Bison Hill in 2006, he served as president and CEO of Shiloh Christian School in Springdale, Ark. In his five years at SCS, Perkins helped the school gain accreditation with the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. He previously served 15 years as senior pastor of Memorial Baptist Church in Grapevine, Texas. He helped establish MBC as a "global priority church" with the International Mission Board. The church's contribution to international missions increased 745 percent under his leadership. He has served as pastor of other Texas Baptist churches and has led mission teams on six different continents.
