Streck to Present Vocal Recital April 23

Streck is a vocal music education major from Hennessey, Okla. The daughter of Tom and Christy Streck, she is from the studio of Dr. Jennifer McQuade, assistant professor of music. During the performance, Streck will be assisted by Dr. Keith Whitmore, staff accompanist, on piano; and Sara Martin, a junior soprano from Faxon, Okla.

The recital will include works by Schumann, Debussy, Delibes, Donizetti, Previn, Bolcom and Beck, performed by Streck, as well as works by Offenbach, Wolf, Strauss, Weber and Carew, performed by Martin.

During her time on Bison Hill, Streck has served as president of the Bisonettes, OBU's women's glee club; president of OBU's chapter of the National Association for Music Education; and co-director of the Campus Activities Board's production of "Follywood." She also served as concert choir student intern and Shawnee Honor Choir student assistant. She is a member of the Campus Activities Board, University Chorale, National Association for Music Education, Sigma Alpha Iota and Mortar Board.

Streck has received numerous scholarships, including the Division of Music's Esteemed Presser Undergraduate Scholar. She was a senior honoree at Hanging of the Green. She also has been named to the President's Honor Roll and Dean's Honor Roll.

She has appeared as a soloist in OBU's Concerto-Aria Concert. She performed as a mezzo-soprano soloist in Handel's "Messiah"; Little Red in Sondheim's "Into the Woods"; Cherubino in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro"; and Denise in Offenbach's "The Lantern Marriage." She was a semi-finalist at Texoma National Association for Teachers of Singing and was the second-place winner in the Junior Women's Division at Oklahoma National Association for Teachers of Singing.

Following graduation in May of 2014, Streck hopes to teach elementary music and eventually obtain a master's degree in music education.
