Kelly, Pace to Lead 2012 Winter Bible Study Clinic

The 2012 Winter Bible Study Clinic, focusing on the study titled "The Greatest Week in History: Luke's Account of the Passion Week," will be taught by Dr. Bobby Kelly and Dr. Scott Pace at OBU on Friday, Oct. 26. The study will be in OBU's Geiger Center, rooms 218-219, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The study focuses on Luke's account of the week leading up to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Those seven days serve as the foundation for both the character and substance of Christianity. The study will begin with Jesus' triumphal approach to Jerusalem and conclude with his resurrection and ascension. The study will investigate what the texts meant in their immediate first-century Jewish context, as well as what they mean today.

Dr. Bobby Kelly joined the OBU faculty in 1997. He was named the Rowena Strickland Professor of Bible in 2000 and the Ruth Dickinson Chair of Bible in 2004. He received OBU's Promising Teacher Award in 2000 and the Distinguished Teaching Award in 2011. A native of Kentucky, Kelly earned a bachelor of arts degree from Clear Creek Baptist College in 1988. He earned a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1992 and a Ph.D. from Southwestern in 1998.

Prior to teaching at OBU, Kelly served five years as a teaching fellow at Southwestern Seminary, leading classes in biblical language appreciation, New Testament and preaching. He has served as an interim pastor at several churches across Oklahoma, and he is a frequent Bible study and conference speaker.

Dr. Scott Pace joined the Hobbs College of Theology and Ministry as the Jewell and Joe L. Huitt Assistant Professor of Applied Ministry in 2009. He was named the Reverend A.E. and Dora Johnson Hughes Chair of Christian Ministry in 2011. Pace earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from North Carolina State University in 1997. He completed a master of divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2002 and earned a Ph.D. in applied theology from the seminary in 2007.

Pace served for more than a decade as a student pastor, associate pastor of doctrine and, most recently, as teaching pastor and administrator at First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, Fla. He previously served as a corporate accountant and in the private sector as a business manager.

There is no charge for the clinic, and no advanced registration is required. An on-campus lunch will be available for $7.40, which may be paid at the door.
