Graves, Flynt to Perform Senior Vocal Recital

OBU students Jacqueline Graves and Casey Flynt will perform their senior vocal recital Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. in Yarborough Auditorium in Raley Chapel on the OBU campus. The community is invited to attend.

Graves, a soprano, is a musical arts major with voice emphasis from Marland, Okla. The daughter of Scott and Judy Graves, she is from the studio of Dr. Jennifer McQuade, assistant professor of music.

She has been named to the President's Honor Roll and Dean's Honor Roll while attending OBU, and she received the valedictorian scholarship and the Mary June Tabor Scholarship. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Fellowship of Church Musicians, University Chorale and handbells. She also has been a member of the Bisonettes Women's Glee Club. She has participated in OBU's opera scenes performances and was a member of the student honor forum in 2008. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a graduate music degree.

Flynt, a baritone, is a church music major with voice emphasis from Turpin, Okla. The son of Larry and Rasonya Flynt, he is from the studio of Dr. Mark McQuade, assistant professor of music and coordinator of vocal studies.

He has been named to the President's Honor Roll and Dean's Honor Roll during his time on Bison Hill. He was a 2010 Hanging of the Green honoree and placed second in the 2010 Oklahoma NATS competition. He is a member of University Chorale and Fellowship of Church Musicians. He is playing Don Bartolo in OBU Opera Theatre's performance of "The Marriage of Figaro." Following graduation, he plans to go into full-time music ministry and pursue a master's degree in church music. The couple is engaged to be married.

Graves' portion of the recital will include works by Handel, Schumann, Hahn, Duparc, Massenet and Head. Flynt's performance will include works by Handel, Scarlatti, Massenet, Duke and Schubert. Together, they will conclude the recital with "I Can Do Without You" by Fain.

They will be accompanied by Dr. Keith Whitmore, assistant professor of music and staff accompanist.

The audience is invited to a reception in Raley Chapel room 142 immediately following the recital.
