Alum Publishes Book Based on Raising 10 Kids

Traveling through time and instruments used by sea-faring men may seem completely unrelated, but OBU alum Lygia Lovelace uses them to comprise a heart-warming, inspirational book about family inspiration and biblical interpretation. "Time Travels ... And Pirate Telescopes" is the title of Lovelace's first book, published by CrossBooks, a division of LifeWay Christian Resources. 

Lygia and Ken Lovelace lovingly raise their 10 children with an enviable grace, amassing touching and laugh-out-loud stories along the way. "Time Travels" shares their family's inspirational stories and the incredible journey they have experienced along the way.

The chapters of the book are inspired by Ecclesiastes 3, with titles such as "A Time to Heal," "A Time to Weep" and "A Time to Laugh." The chapters present different stories from Lovelace's life based on those themes and how they relate to biblical principles of what it means to be a Christian. The stories touch on the themes of joy, sorrow, death, miracles, mission work and adoption, and they offer Lovelace's insight into how there is truly a time for everything.

"God always has a plan for us," Lovelace wrote. "His plan is one of hope and of growth, through both the joys and struggles of life."

Lovelace earned a bachelor's degree in religion-ethics from OBU in 1986. Several years ago, God called Lovelace and her family to Lisbon, Portugal, to serve as missionaries with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board. Today she and her family live in St. Louis, Mo., where her husband serves as pastor of First Baptist Church of St. John. Of their 10 children, ranging in ages from 4 to 20, five are "home-grown" and five are adopted. Lovelace stays active leading Bible studies, raising her children, helping less fortunate people around the world, and writing inspirational articles about Christianity and spirituality.
