Babbie Mason to Lead OBU Chapel Feb. 4

Christian singer, songwriter and author Babbie Mason will lead Oklahoma Baptist University's African American Heritage chapel on Feb. 4. The chapel service, the first of the spring semester, will be held in Raley Chapel's Potter Auditorium at 10 a.m. on the OBU campus. The public is welcome to attend.

The recipient of two Dove awards and countless other recognition, Mason has produced 15 records and composed songs such as "All Rise" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name." Mason's songs have been performed by artists such as CeCe Winans, Larnelle Harris and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

Born in Jackson, Mich., Mason worked closely for years with her father, serving as the music minister and pianist at the church he founded. In addition to her music career, Mason is the author of two books, titled, "Faithlift: Put Wings to Your Faith Walk and Soar" and "Treasures of Heaven in the Stuff on Earth."

Mason is a friend of Keith Grimaud, current missionary-in-residence at OBU, and his family. The family's friendship fostered the opportunity for Mason to visit Bison Hill.

"Their friendship with Babbie is what's bringing her to our campus," said Dale Griffin, OBU campus minister. "This is a real gift of hers to us, wrapped around her friendship with the Grimauds."

The entire chapel time will be devoted to Mason's visit.

"She wants to come to our campus and support the Grimauds and their work on campus, mobilizing students for missions," Griffin said. "She wants to lead us in worship and call us to actively strengthen our relationship with God."
