Lady Bison go 2-1 in Fort Worth

Oklahoma Baptist took two out of three in the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas, Friday, rebounding form an opening loss.

First-year program Houston-Victoria shut out the Lady Bison for a 2-0 win with Lauren Garza holding OBU to two hits - a pair of sixth-inning singles by Vanessa Fortune and Sonya Beach.

Beach took the loss in the game, allowing just five hits.

The Lady Bison bounced back in the afternoon for wins over Texas Wesleyan and College of the Southwest.

OBU beat TWU 9-1 to move to 3-0 against the Rams this season. The Lady Bison scored four runs in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Kaley Dickerson and a two-run single by Bobbi Day.

OBU added five in the second on a three-run home run by Dickerson and back-to-back RBI singles by Jayme Boyer and Brooke Stevens.

Dickerson had three hits and Brittney Day added two to lead OBU's nine-hit attack.

Alicia Avilla (1-0) picked up the win, checking TWU on four hits and allowing no earned runs.

The third game went extra innings before OBU claimed a 13-8 victory over College of the Southwest.

OBU scored four in the first inning on a three-run home run by Boyer and a sacrifice fly by Bobbi Day.

The Lady Bison fell behind 5-4 after two innings, but Stevens evened things with a solo home run in the third.

Two runs scored on CSW errors for a 7-5 Lady Bison lead in the fifth and OBU went ahead 8-6 in the top of the seventh with an RBI single by Jami Pate.

The Lady Mustangs tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra inning.

OBU got an RBI ground out by Alyssa Henkes and a sacrifice fly by Dickerson to go ahead by two runs. Boyer then doubled home two more and scored on a double by Stevens.

Henkes was 3-of-5 with a triple and a double.

Beach (2-2) pitched the last six innings to pick up the win in relief.

Now 4-2, the Lady Bison continue the tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday against USAO.
