Lady Bison Go 1-2 in Classic

Oklahoma Baptist continued its offensive assault in the Mid-America Nazarene Tournament, but the defense didn't follow suit as the Lady Bison softball team went 1-2.

OBU lost to Grand View 7-6 and Park 13-9 before whipping pool champion Sterling 19-9. In all, the Lady Bison had 34 runs and 46 hits in three games, but committed 15 errors.

OBU got a two-run home run by Jayme Boyer, an RBI ground out by Kaley Dickerson and an RBI single by Vanessa Fortune in the first game. Jami Pate and Sonya Beach had a double and a single each and Alyssa Henkes had two singles in the 7-6 loss to Grand View.

Grand View scored four runs on three Lady Bison errors in the bottom of the seventh to collect the unearned win against Beach (3-4).

OBU trailed6-2 heading into the fifth inning against Park, when the Lady Bison scored seven times with an RBI walk by Chelsea Hull, a two-run triple by Henkes, an RBI ground out by Dickerson, a two-run double by Brooke Stevens and RBI singles by Beach and Hull.

But Park scored three in the sixth and won the game with four in the top of the seventh.

Boyer and Brittney Day had three hits each to lead the 13-hit attack, while Henkes had two.

Boyer, Dickerson and Stevens each homered in the 19-9 win over Sterling. Boyer and Dickerson drove in two each with their blasts while Stevens added a three-run shot. Stevens and Dickerson also had an RBI double each.

Henkes added a three-run double and an RBI single. Bobbi Day had two RBI singles and Beach added another run-scoring single.

Boyer and Stevens had four hits each in the game, while Bobbi Day, Dickerson and Fortune had three each and Beach and Henkes had two apiece.

Now 8-6, the Lady Bison play Dordt at 10 a.m. Saturday in Olathe and will conclude the tournament with a 2 p.m. game.
