Lady Bison Complete Perfect Home Season

Oklahoma Baptist University's Lady Bison completed the program's first perfect home season Saturday, beating Rogers State 67-52.

The game was the last on the Noble Complex floor for seniors Keely Tolin, Betsy Simmons and Ashley Gamble.

"That feels really great," said OBU coach John McCullough of the perfect home season. "It will feel even better to our seniors five or six years down the road when they think about it."

After four lead changes in the first five minutes, OBU took the lead for good on a basket by Taujhnae Travis at the 14:31 mark, triggering a 13-3 run. The Lady Bison had a 19-10 advantage at the 10:29 mark.

Rogers State got within 19-15 on back-to-back baskets by Hayley KnifeChief, but the Hillcats never put back-to-back scores together again for the rest of the half. OBU built a 36-26 lead by the half.

The Hillcats got within six again in the early part of the second half.

"They made it a struggle," McCullough said. "We were a little high emotionally. Everyone wanted to play well for the seniors and we just made some miscues."

Simmons scored five points in a 7-0 Lady Bison run to build the lead back up to 50-36 and the OBU defense made sure Rogers State never got within 10 again.

The lead peaked at 65-47 on baskets by Travis and Simmons with 2:43 left.

OBU dominated the rebounding category with 44 to RSU's 25, with Simmons and Heather Graham grabbing eight boards each.

"We did a good job rebounding," said McCullough. "I was happy with the job Betsy and Heather did for us there."

Travis led OBU with 23 points, followed by Simmons with 14 and Graham and Gamble with 10 apiece.

The win locked up the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament for the Lady Bison.

Now 26-3 overall and 18-3 in the SAC, the Lady Bison end the regular season with a 1 p.m. tipoff at John Brown in Siloam Springs, Ark., Saturday.
