Bison Hold Off USAO

February 23, 2008

Moore hit all seven of his field goal attempts and scored seven free throws in nine attempts for a 21-points night. He and point guard Brent Jones supplied almost two-thirds of the OBU offense as Jones scored 22 points.

The loss avenged an tough loss at USAO earlier in the season.

"We really needed this one," said Moore. "We've had a rough few weeks lately so we needed to win. We owed them. We really wanted this one."

The Drovers have been tough of late, having beaten Oklahoma City at OCU earlier this month. The Bison had decent leads evaporate twice.

"They're a good basketball team," said Bison coach Doug Tolin. "There is a reason they won five or six in a row - one of them at OCU. "We did a good job of handling the ball against good athletes."

After five lead changes in the game's first eight minutes, OBU took off on a 10-1 run with five points each by Jones and Brian Hill. That streak put the Bison ahead 12-13 with 8:18 left in the half.

USAO got within a basket at halftime, 30-28.

The Drovers took the lead early in the second half, 32-28, but the Bison responded with the next 12 points. Moore scored four points inside during that run as OBU took a 42-32 lead.

USAO got back within striking distance with a 7-0 run, but the Bison held the Drovers without a field goal for the next four minutes while building the lead back to 56-44.

The Drovers made another charge but couldn't get closer than five points.

Now 20-8 on the season, the Bison host Rogers State in the final home game of the season on Thursday. The winner will be in the driver's seat for a first round bye in the SAC Tournament.

OBU, Rogers State and Northwestern are all tied for fourth place at 12-8 in the SAC.
