Lady Bison Coast Past Wayland Baptist

January 20, 2007

OBU held the Flying Queens to 28 percent shooting from the field and while much of that can be attributed to the stellar, top-ranked Lady Bison defense, Wayland Baptist also shot 40 percent (6-of-15) from the free throw line.

OBU had eight blocked shots, including four by Lena Brenning, who also had 10 rebounds. The Lady Bison had 47 rebounds, compared to 26 for Wayland Baptist.

OBU scored the game's first 14 points with Betsy Simmons scoring six of her team-high 11 points in the opening surge.

Wayland pulled to within 10 before Jayme Glover triggered a 7-0 run with a three-pointer. Jennifer Jupin hit another three-pointer to cap a half-ending 5-0 run that left the Lady Bison ahead 40-21 at intermission.

The second half started much the same way, with OBU opening with a 17-2 run and led 578-23 with 9:47 mark, the biggest Lady Bison lead of the game.

Dilenny Castillo added 10 points to join Simmons in double figures. Anastasia Okolo led all scorers for Wayland Baptist with 16 points.

OBU (9-6, 3-2) will host Southern Nazarene in a make-up game Monday at 6 p.m. Wayland Baptist (11-8, 2-5) will host USAO Thursday.
