The Tempest to Open OBU's Theatre Season

Oklahoma Baptist University Theatre will open its 2006-07 season with The Tempest by William Shakespeare on Nov. 2.

The play will be in Craig-Dorland Theatre, located in Shawnee Hall, Nov. 2-4 and Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. There also will be matinees Nov. 11 and 12 at 2:30 p.m. For ticket information, call (405) 878-2347.

Believed to be Shakespeare's final play written for performance, The Tempest is regarded as one of the most theatrically challenging plays, according to Dr. Joyce Aldridge, OBU assistant professor of theatre.

"Shakespeare creates a memorable story of the search for forgiveness and its transforming powers," said Aldridge.

The OBU theatre season continues with the presentation of Brer Rabbit Tales Feb. 23-24 and March 2-3 at 7:30 p.m. The performance is adapted for the stage by Stanley Vincent Longman from the stories of Joel Chandler Harris.

Six Characters in Search of an Author by Luigi Pirandello will conclude the season April 19-20 and April 27-28 at 7:30 p.m. with two matinees on April 21 and April 29 at 2:30 p.m.

Additionally, in Sarkeys Studio Theatre, OBU Theatre and the University Concert Series will co-sponsor "Live at the Black Box" programs at 9 p.m. on Oct. 13, Nov. 3, Feb. 23 and March 30. The shows will feature the Bison Jazz Orchestra in Sarkeys Studio Theatre.

2006-07 OBU Theatre season tickets are available. Individual tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and $1 for children under 12.
