The Rock and The Rabbi Coming Sept. 26

The Rock and The Rabbi, a unique new musical which has drawn high praise from evangelical leaders, will be presented at Oklahoma Baptist University on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m. in Raley Chapel.

Best selling Christian author Josh McDowell said he was "amazed" by the show.

"I was blown away by it," he said. "You don't see it. You don't hear it. You experience it."

Written by Gary Richardson with music and lyrics by Danny Hamilton, The Rock and The Rabbi gives a contemporary treatment of the biblical story of Peter the fisherman and Jesus of Nazareth.

The musical is being presented at OBU in association with Tulsa-based Celebrity Attractions. Proceeds from the Shawnee performance will benefit OBU's Student GO Trip Scholarship Funds for the Avery T. Willis Center for Global Outreach.



"We're delighted to offer a highly acclaimed musical on the OBU campus," said Dale Griffin, OBU campus minister. "This is a great opportunity for churches to come to our campus and enjoy an innovative presentation."

"Danny and I went off to the mountains for a writing retreat," said Richardson, who wanted to share the story of Jesus from Peter's vantage point. "I pulled every single reference to Peter from the first four books of the New Testament and began working on an outline for the story. Danny went about writing the most wonderful music I've ever heard.

"After a lot of editing, we began to weave the script and the songs together," he said. "The result is The Rock & The Rabbi. And ever since, we've had the ride of our lives. What a privilege to stand on wonderful stages around the country and tell the world's greatest story."

The musical had a run of performances at the Lamb's Theater in New York City earlier this year. The show also has been presented in Dallas and Kansas City with upcoming appearances in Fort Smith, Ark., and Springfield, Mo.

Individual tickets for The Rock and The Rabbi are $20. For individual ticket sales and information about group pricing, call OBU's Jent Alumni Center at 405.878.2703. OBU students, faculty, and staff may purchase tickets in the Student Development Office on the second floor of the Geiger Center.

The performance on Sept. 26 will begin at 8 p.m. Doors to the auditorium will open at 7:30 p.m. The Potter Auditorium lobby, at the south entrance, will open at 7 p.m. Show merchandise will be available for purchase at that time.
