Softball Team Captures Classic

The Lady Bison scored three times in the first and four runs in the second in the opener and then held off a hard-charging Cougar team.

Sandralina Rones had a two-run double, followed by an RBI double by Michelle Asmundson to put OBU ahead 3-0 in the first inning.

Mid-Continent scored in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1, but OBU added four in the second on a three-run double by Cathy Nitz and an RBI single by Rones.

Amanda Zahara went the distance for OBU, allowing five earned runs in the win and improving to 6-1 on the season. Zahara has won six straight since opening the season with a loss to Oklahoma State.

Rones finished the game with three hits while Allison Ramzy and Katy Thurber had two each in the 10-hit outing.

In the second game, OBU piled up 10 more hits in a game shortened to five innings on the 8-run mercy rule.

The Lady Bison broke up the scoreless tie in the second when Rones doubled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Swofford.

OBU tacked on three more runs in the third on an RBI single by Rones and a two-run single by Swofford.

The Lady Bison strung together back-to-back-to-back RBI doubles by Melissa Martinez, Swofford and Catherine Eimen before Ramzy drove home the eighth run with a base hit.

Ashley Howard improved to 4-2 in the circle for OBU, shutting out OWU on four hits.

Swofford and Rones had two hits apiece for OBU in the second game.

The Lady Bison will next play Tuesday at McPherson College in Kansas.
