OBU Slugs Way Past Bacone

March 17, 2005

The series that was originally scheduled to be played on the campus of Bacone College, but was moved to Muskogee High School because of a facility problem. The location change to the cozier confines, coupled with a stiff south wind, was exactly what the Bison offense needed to break out of an offensive funk.

In game one, the Bison scored early and often to take a 14-7 lead into the sixth inning, but the Warriors battled back stratching two runs in the sixth and seven more in the seventh inning off of two Bison relievers.

With the game knotted at sixteen in the ninth, Frankie Ibarra drove in Kip Keith form third with an RBI infield single to give OBU a one run lead. The Bison extended their lead to three runs one batter later as Nick Bakich clubbed a two-run homerun, his second of the game.

Tabor Woolard (5-2) picked up the victory for the Bison by pitching two innings in relief, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits. In the opener, the Bison hammered out a season-high 25 hits, with every starter collecting multiple hits.

In the nightcap, the Bison jumped out to an early lead with a first inning home run by Felix Peguero, his fifth of the season. The Bison tacked on five more in the top of the fifth highlighted by Danny Guidry's first of three homeruns in the game. One inning later, Nick Bakich hit his third homerun of the day, a two-run bomb down the left-field line.

The early run support was more than enough for OBU starter Brent Roberts (2-1), who pitched five and one-third to pick up the win for the Bison.

Offensively in game two, the Bison were led by Danny Guidry (3-3, 3HR) and Felix Peguero (2-4, HR, 2B).

With the sweep, the Bison improve their regular season record to 21-6, 3-1. Next scheduled action for OBU is a 1 p.m. start, Saturday against Newman University in Wichita, Kan.
