OBU Surrenders 3-1 Loss to SNU

October 21, 2004

In their worst defensive effort since the season opener, Oklahoma Baptist lost to Southern Nazarene 3-1, dropping to 0-4-1 in conference action.

SNU put 12 shots on the OBU goal with Maira Negri able to stop nine.

The Lady Bison took a 1-0 lead when Katinha Arruda penetrated the defense and passed to Cara Zalenski for a goal just under 12 minutes into the game.

But Shannon Strimple smoothly weaved through the OBU defense and scored a one-on-one goal in the 17th minute to tie the game.

Arruda narrowly missed a shot that hit the bar on its descent, but glanced to the left of the goal.

The score remained 1-1 until halftime and after that OBU had few scoring opportunities trying to push the ball against a firm breeze.

Strimple deftly moved positioned herself for another shot and scored in the 56th minute for a 2-1 SNU lead.

Lindsey Kesselhuth scored from long range in the 61st minute to seal OBU's fate  a losing SAC record in the first year of action.

SNU out-shot OBU 22-15.

The OBU women return to action Saturday at St. Gregory's and finish the regular season Tuesday at John Brown.
