Bisonettes, University Chorale to Perform at UBC Nov. 15

The Bisonettes and University Chorale of Oklahoma Baptist University will present an evening of choral classics, written by composers from around the world, in a performance at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 15, at University Baptist Church in Shawnee.

Dr. Bonnie Borshay Sneed, the newly appointed associate professor of choral music, will conduct the choirs, and Dr. Ron Davis, associate professor of organ, will be featured.

A $5 suggested donation will be received at the door to help the choirs raise money for recording equipment and touring projects.

The concert will open with the University Chorale singing Norwegian composer Knut Nystedt's "Cry Out and Shout" followed by "Salmo 150" of Brazilian composer Ernani Aguiar. Additional compositions include works by Hassler, Poulenc, Willaert and John Rutter.

The Bisonettes Glee Club will perform repertoire by Palestrina, Debussy and Howard Hanson and will be accompanied by strings on Fissinger's "The Lamb," a setting of the William Blake poem.

Both groups are premiering in their first-ever fall concert with their new conductor. Dr. Sneed has been at OBU since August, coming as the former Director of Choral Activities at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She has toured with her choirs throughout Europe, New England, Washington DC and the Southern United States. She also is a published choral editor for National Music Publishing and has published reviews and an article in the American Choral Journal. A graduate of Furman University, Southern Methodist University and Michigan State University, Sneed was awarded a Meritorious Teaching award at her former institution by students and faculty. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Kappa Lambda, MENC and the American Choral Directors Association.

A capacity crowd is expected.
