Grad Featured In National Christian College Campaign

Dr. Judith James-Wood, a 1989 OBU graduate, is one of 31 Christian college graduates featured in a month-long internet feature compiled by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. The feature is part of the October "Christian Higher Education Month" celebration.

James-Wood was selected from a pool of candidates from CCCU member schools nationwide. Currently associate professor of medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center and an assistant member of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, she has gained national recognition for her research work, especially in the areas of lupus and scleroderma.

The OBU graduate is part of a distinguished group of alums from CCCU institutions, including Billy Graham, Eugene Peterson, and Del Harris. Dr. James-Wood's profile is located at www.cccu.org/chemonth.

"In the last few years, government leaders have been pushing for more 'outcomes-based assessment' of higher education," said CCCU President Dr. Robert C. Andringa, in a news release from the organization. "One of the best methods is to have a good assessment of alumni after several years away from the campus. Based on our national comparative survey of CCCU alumni, we have much to feel good about. Our campuses prepare students for life, not just for work."

According to a recent study commissioned by the CCCU, 90 percent of CCCU alumni surveyed reported that their college experience was very or extremely effective in helping them develop a sense of purpose in life.

The CCCU is a higher education association of more than 150 intentionally Christ-centered insitutions around the world. There are 103 member campuses in North America and all are accredited, comprehensive colleges and universities with curricula rooted in the arts and sciences. In addition, 58 affiliate campuses from 21 countries are part of the CCCU. The Council's stated mission is "to advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help its insitutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth."
