OBU Adds Six New Faculty Members

Six new faculty members will begin their tenure at Oklahoma Baptist University this fall.

Karen Longest will serve as assistant professor of psychology, Beth Green Nagle as assistant professor of Spanish, Melissa Roberts as assistant professor of music, Clarance Benes as assistant professor of teacher education, Phyllis Tipton as instructor of education and William C. Chapman as visiting professor of accounting,

Longest from East Central University, where she was assistant professor of psychology. She also served in an adjunct position on the faculty of Redlands Junior College and worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Central Oklahoma.

She holds a Ph.D. degree in counseling psychology from the University of Oklahoma, a master's degree in psychology from UCO and a bachelor's degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Nagle has been a lecturer in Spanish at UCO since 2001. She also has taught at Garland County Community College, Hendrix College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She earned a master's degree is Hispanic literature from UNC and a bachelor's degree from Hendrix. She also has studied at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico and Universidad de Marquette en Madrid, Espana, in Spain.

Roberts has been an assistant instructor in music at the University of Texas at Austin since 1997. She also has taught at Baylor University and the University of South Florida.

She recently completed her doctorate in music theory from the University of Texas. She holds a master's degree in music theory from Baylor and a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University.

Benes comes to Bison Hill from Frontier High School, where he taught social studies. He also has served on the faculty of Murray State University and was a graduate teaching assistant at Oklahoma State University.

He received his bachelor's, master's and doctor of education degrees from OSU.

Tipton, who was a 1996 state finalist for Oklahoma Teacher of the Year, was an adjunct instructor at OBU last year. She was the Shawnee Public Schools' literacy resource specialist in 2000-01. She has taught in the public schools in Shawnee, Davenport, North Enid and Chandler.

She holds a bachelor's and master's degree from UCO.

Chapman comes to OBU from ECU, where he was a professor of accounting. He also has served as visiting professor of accounting at Oklahoma State University and was dean of the School of Business at ECU from 1974-86.

He holds a Ph.D. degree in accounting from the University of Oklahoma, a master's degree from the University of Florida, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Tulsa.
