Recording Artist Returns to OBU This Week

Oklahoma Baptist University will host an alum who is hailed for her messages of hope through song this Wednesday in the university's weekly chapel service.

Missy Mitchell's music ministry flows out of a desire to encourage others just as she was encouraged by Christian artists and their music throughout her life, she says. Legally blind from birth, Mitchell is an inspiration not only to the disabled, but to anyone who needs to hear a message of hope.

After earning a degree from OBU in 1993, Mitchell released her first album, "He Remains Faithful," the following year and her second album, "Surrender," in 1996.

Mitchell has opened for Margaret Becker, Wayne Watson, Larnelle Harris and Babbie Mason and sang with Larry Dalton and the Tulsa Symphony in 1996.

Another focus of her ministry is The Little Light House, a tuition-free Christian developmental center for children with special needs. The school was founded by Mitchell's parents because of her limited eyesight.

She also will perform at Temple Baptist Church, Sunday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m.

OBU's chapel service is at 10 a.m. in the university's Raley Chapel.
