Bisonettes To Perform Spring Concert

Oklahoma Baptist University's women's choral ensemble, the Bisonettes, will present their spring concert Thursday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the university's Yarborough Auditorium.

The concert will include a variety of choral pieces, including four works by Denver, Colo., composer David Heck, who will attend the concert.

Married to Marie Johnson, an OBU graduate and four-year member of Bisonettes, Heck received bachelor's and master's degrees in music from Denver University.

The concert will also feature the songs "I Will Rejoice and Be Glad," and "The Gift of Love," performed by the Bisonette Ensemble of Nancy Ruth Bailey, Cayce Bynum, Lindsay Elston, Elizabeth German, Ari Gilger, Kimberly Pringle, Joanna Rempel, Sarah Rose, and Sara Woods.

OBU junior Sky Chaddick will serve as accompanist for the Bisonettes, and freshman Lacey Kuehn will accompany on flute. Ellen Simons is guest instrumentalist on flute.

The 35-voice group has produced two c.d.s, including Reason to Sing in 1998 and Bisonettes: Past and Present in 2000.

The Bisonettes are directed by Jack Pearson, OBU associate professor of music. Pearson, who has been a member of the OBU faculty since 1967, has directed the Bisonettes since 1971.

An OBU graduate, he received his master of music degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. He has served as minister of music in churches in Oklahoma, Texas, and Tennessee.

The Bisonettes were organized in 1954 under the leadership of Dr. Warren M. Angell, dean emeritus of the university's College of Fine Arts.
