Area Students Get Financial Aid Help

Given the chance to receive help with tedious college scholarship applications, most parents and students would be first to volunteer.
Area high school juniors and seniors will receive step-by-step instructions for college financial aid information when advisors from across the state offer free information, Monday, Jan. 22.
Hosted in Oklahoma Baptist University's Geiger Center at 7 p.m., the seventh annual Shawnee Area-Wide Financial Aid Night, cosponsored by BancFirst and OBU, will walk students and parents through the scholarship application process, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Presenters include Lynell Armstrong, financial aid coordinator at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech, Marcia Carter, financial aid director at East Central University, Larry Hollingsworth, director of student financial services at OBU, Pam McConanay, assistant director of compliance and support services at the University of Oklahoma, and Lori Perry, financial aid advisor at Rose State University.
"The financial aid process can be daunting for parents and students, especially the first time," said Michael Cappo, OBU dean of admissions. "Regardless of a student's college plans, we want to be helpful in the whole process."
BancFirst will hold a drawing for two $50 savings bonds for students attending the event.
Students can get more information about the seminar from their high school counselors or by calling the OBU admissions office at 878-2033.
