Scholarships, Awards Focus of OBU Banquet

Attendees of Oklahoma Baptist University's Church Vocation Banquet will witness the awarding of $16,000 in scholarships, the recognition of 13 accomplished seniors, and a message from outstanding alumni award winner, Bill Green, on Monday, April 24 at 6 p.m. on the university's campus.

All students who are receiving the Prichard Church Vocations Scholarship attend the spring banquet. The purpose is to recognize these students as well as honor students who have excelled in various areas of Christian studies: Hebrew, Greek, Theology, Christian history, pastoral ministry, youth ministry, education ministry, missions, philosophy, church recreation and church music.

Members of the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference will be providing special music.

Green, associate executive of the church and family equipping ministries of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, will receive the school of Christian service's outstanding alumni award. He is being recognized as a role model for OBU students.

As associate executive director, Green coordinates the ministries for Oklahoma churches in the areas of Sunday School, Discipleship Training, Adult, Single, youth, Family, and Worship and Music. He also serves as the conductor of the Singing Churchmen and the Singing ChurchWomen of Oklahoma.


Green has a bachelor of church music degree from OBU and in 1995, the university honored him with an honorary doctorate.

Green served as minister of music of First Baptist Church, Richardson, Texas for 15 years. Prior to that, Green had served as minister of music of Immanuel Baptist Church, Shawnee.

In 1976 he was honored by being chosen as one of the Outstanding Young Men in America. He has been the recipient of OBU's 1985 Profile in Excellence Award and has served as the president of the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference.

He and his wife Linda have two children.
