Biography

As an Associate Professor of Theatre Arts, John Dement, serves as the Director of Theatre for the Theatre Arts program at OBU. Mr. Dement brings more than thirty-five years of experience in all areas of the theatre industry. Dement’s directing experience includes more than forty academic and community theatre productions. Dement performed onstage in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Baton Rouge. While living in Austin, he worked on films including Miss Congeniality, Where the Heart Is, and The Faculty. During his time in Arlington, TX, he worked on episodes of Dallas, The Good Guys, and Lone Star. Dement's design credits include lighting design for theatre, dance, and film. He designed sets for multiple universities and small professional companies. During the summers, he and two of his sons, Cline and Everett work on the rifle range at Kia Kima Scout Reservation, teaching archery, rifle, and shotgun to young men and women.
