Dr. Chaoyang “Kevin” Gao

Biography
Dr. Gao joined OBU in Fall 2026. Prior to this appointment, he served as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of California, Riverside, where he received Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards as well as Departmental Service Awards. He also taught as an adjunct instructor at California Baptist University.
Dr. Gao’s research focuses on Higgs bundles, at the intersection of differential geometry and algebra. His work uses tools from Lie theory and differential forms to better understand these structures.
Outside of mathematics, Kevin enjoys playing video games, bouldering, practicing kendo, and crocheting. He has been married to his wife, Charity, since 2019, and they have three children: Andrew, Audrey, and Aiden.
