Water Fitness Instructor Certification Course Offered

The National Certification Course for Water Fitness Instructors will be conducted at OBU's Recreation and Wellness Center on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 9:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. It is the only United States Water Fitness Association certification course to be held in Oklahoma in 2010.

“It is an honor to have this national organization conduct the certification on our campus,” said Amy Riggins, director of the Recreation and Wellness Center. “We are glad to serve as a host site.”

Water fitness is one of the fastest growing fitness activities throughout the country. According to John R. Spannuth, president of the United States Water Fitness Association which headquarters in Boynton Beach, Fla., any water fitness programs in the country average more than 1,000 different participants per year in their water exercise classes.

The course at OBU is open to any person age 16 years or older who has an interest in being a water fitness instructor. Water fitness instructors who currently teach, but who do not have credentials, are strongly encouraged to attend.

An advanced course will also be held on the same day for individuals who have a minimum of three years’ experience teaching water exercise and at least 150 hours of actual experience teaching water exercise.

Registration deadline for the course is Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010. Participants are encouraged to allow plenty of time to complete pre-course materials prior to attending the National Testing Day.
