Festival of Media Arts to Showcase Award-Winning Work

Oklahoma Baptist University's Division of Communication Arts will host its annual Festival of Media Arts Wednesday, May 5, at 7 p.m. in Craig-Dorland Theatre of Shawnee Hall. The festival will feature the creative work of 13 students from OBU's Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts. The public is invited to attend the free event.

"It isn't very often that we as communication students have the opportunity to share the work we do with the rest of the OBU community," said Andrea Gates, a senior electronic media production major from Plano, Texas. "The Festival of Media Arts is our chance to show some of our award-winning pieces, and we would be honored to have our fellow students, professors and administration come and share in our success."

OBU senior Andrea Gates participates in a broadcast of OBU's weekly news program, News 30. Gates and other OBU communications students will present the annual Festival of Media Arts Wednesday, May 5, at 7 p.m. in Craig-Dorland Theatre of Shawnee Hall. The public is invited to attend.

The festival, which was started several years ago, offers an evening of creative entertainment. Students in OBU's Division of Communication Arts recently won 14 student broadcasting awards, including six first-place awards, from the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association. The Festival of Media Arts is an opportunity for the community to see the talent and creativity of communication arts students, said Mike Bruce, OBU assistant professor of telecommunications.

Bruce said the festival will feature examples of student's photographs, audio productions and video productions, including animated shorts, "A ‘Fishy' Parable" and "Pawn Revolt"; a music video, "Merry-Go-Round"; a video essay, "Devil's Den State Park"; radio entertainment titled "Journey's End"; a feature news story, "The Greg Burns Story"; and segments from News 30, OBU's weekly news broadcast.

Majors represented by the festival participants include electronic media production, strategic communications, news and information, applied communication and art.
