Reverend Dr. Eric A. Mayes, Jr. Scholarship

The children of the Reverend Dr. Eric A. Mayes, Jr., Oklahoma Baptist University’s first African American graduate, have established a scholarship endowment to be called “The Reverend Dr. Eric A. Mayes, Jr. Scholarship.” Desiring to continue the vision and ministry of their father, the family started the fund to help a wide range of students achieve their dreams of a college education. Dr. Mayes, who proudly served in the U. S. Army, was an influential Oklahoma pastor, author, and educator.

The endowment fund will provide financial support for students who are from diverse races and ethnicities. First preference will be given to African American students with second preference to students of minority decent.  Candidates are required to have a 3.0 GPA or higher demonstrating a desire to participate and/or volunteer in ministry, community, organized sports and student government activities.
