Bison Jazz Orchestra

The Bison Jazz Orchestra, an auditioned jazz ensemble, is the premiere jazz ensemble in the Division of Music at Oklahoma Baptist University. Directed by Dustin Higgins, the Bison Jazz Orchestra performs a wide variety of big band music ranging from music of the swing band era to contemporary jazz ensemble works. 

The ensemble performs regularly across the OBU campus and regionally each year. Each semester, the Bison Jazz Orchestra performs several Nights of Jazz for the OBU community, which includes swing dancing and a jam session for local musicians. In 2018, the Bison Jazz Orchestra toured and performed in Russia, including the House of Culture in St. Petersburg. Recent guest artists who have performed with the ensemble include Steve Weist, Paul Stephens, Kirk Whalum, Andre Hayward, and Stockton Helbring.
