Biography

Dr. Will Smallwood was promoted to senior vice president for advancement and university relations at Oklahoma Baptist University in March 2016. Smallwood began his service at OBU in May 2010 as vice president for university advancement, leading the development team as well as the alumni relations team. He serves as the university’s chief development officer and advises the president on management and operation of university development and donor relations. In his new role, the university’s marketing and communications team will join development and alumni in reporting to Smallwood.

Under his leadership, OBU launched its most extensive fund raising effort in history with the five-year, $42 million Vision for a New Century Capital Campaign. In December 2014, a little more than 3 years into the campaign, OBU surpassedthe $42 million campaign goal. In response to this success, OBU Trustees extended the financial and timeline goal of the campaign to $60 million by December 2018.

After college, Smallwood worked in Florida as a commercial printing sales consultant for Fortune 500 firm Consolidated Graphics. He also served as a bi-vocational pastor in Kentucky and preaches frequently at churches in Oklahoma. He and his wife Caroline are members of Immanuel Baptist, Shawnee, and he serves on the Shawnee Airport Advisory Board. A native of Ocala, Fla., Smallwood earned a bachelor's degree in public relations from the University of Florida. He earned a master's degree in theology from Southern Seminary and completed his doctorate of philosophy in the area of American religious history and biblical spirituality.
